Art was the first recorded form of communication. Throughout history, art has been used to communicate historical times, religious information, cultural stories, styles and expressions. It is by using art as communication, that we are able to visualize pre-historic times and experience what our ancestors saw, experienced, and how they survived.

I believe art plays an essential role in defining who we are as humans. It is the ultimate form of communication and crosses language barriers and gives a sense if community. Making community involvement a priority in my life through the arts is essential in building relationships and cultural application through any means of creativity.

Throughout my years as both an artist and art educator, I have been dedicated through my involvement in local exhibits, public artworks, mentoring, teaching and volunteering

When reflecting on my style of work, I feel through my continued growth and experience that my work has evolved through color schemes and abstract by design. I love to work in abstract style through the use of mix-media and glass.

During my college experience in art, I limited myself to what I was comfortable with but have learned to break away from that comfortability. As I continued as an artist in the community, I gained more experience that provided opportunities  of exploration.  As a teacher, I began to also explore a variety of media that I would introduce to my students and also implemented into my artworks.

I am drawn to the world around me as it inspires me to create art; people, environment, or just observing culture as it exists.

For me, art is a synthesis of my personal feelings and the subjects or colors that inspire.  Serenity and simplicity are my primary goals. My desire is for my work to portray that ideology. There are no boundaries, allowing the journey to be in the eye and heart of the beholder.

My work is an expression of my soul’s journey through life, an extension of who I am.
